Most flyers do not know that BA will Price Match an exact flight if found cheaper elsewhere. We put the that British Airways Best Price Match Guarantee to the test…
“If you book with us, but find a qualifying British Airways flight for less elsewhere and let us know on the same day as you book, we’ll give you a voucher for the difference. Even better: if you’re a member of our Executive Club, we’ll give you double the difference”.
Best Price Match Guarantee – How to work the Guarantee Correctly
Make your flight only booking on ba.com.
Take a screenshot of the page with competing fare. Hold onto this until BA contact you.
Read through our helpful FAQ’s, to ensure you capture all the necessary information, before submitting your claim.
Fill out the form below on the same day you make your ba.com booking.
How to make a Successful Claim Guarantee

Ensure your screenshot of the cheaper fare price includes details such as Date and time the screenshot was taken; • Full itinerary (including all flight numbers); • A full breakdown of the individual fare for each passenger including credit/debit card charges and booking fees; and • Website name/logo.
If your Making a claim for a child & or adult, show a full breakdown of the fare, with all passengers included.
Ensure the date & time are clearly displayed on your screenshot evidence submitted.
You may need to expand into further information / details on the competitors fare breakdown to display all booking classes.
You do not receive a refund in cash, only in the form of an E-Voucher which can be applied to your next BA Flight booked directly on British Airways.
Where as it appears the best Value refund is applicable if your BA Executive Club Member, if you look closer at the Terms & Conditions you will notice limitations to the refund amounts.
British Airways Executive Club members can only claim up to a maximum of £100 in the Double statement. In reality this means that your maximum price difference equates to £200 refunded in the forms of an e-voucher. Anything over £100 will not be doubled up as a Refund.
You can only make your claim online and not over the phone.

We Put the BA Best Price Guarantee to the Test…
We decided to put the Price Match Guarantee to the test today, find our results we found below.
We picked a Flight from LondonGatwick to Malaga (Spain) on British Airways in Business Class, Club Europe departing LGW – 06/11/19 at 13.55 arriving AGP – 17.45.
Returning to Gatwick from Malaga – 10/11/19 – 12.05 arriving 14.00.
First the BA Flight Fare Screenshot we found Below:
So take a note of the BA Price for this Fare – £820.12.
Now we headed over to an Online Flight Agency called TravelUp, we use this site as routinely they always serve up more competitive fare prices. Look what price we found below for exactly the Same fare, booking class & dates.
Comparing the two different fare prices for exactly the same flight, by the same carrier and the exact Same booking class.
You can see a price fare difference of £15.08 between British Airways direct and TravelUp.com.
To a flyer not a member of the BA Executive Club, you would receive an e-Voucher for £15.08, the exact price difference between the two fares.
However, if you were to become a member of the Executive Club by Clicking Here – BA Executive Club Sign-Up
You would receive an e-Voucher to the total of £30.16 to be used off your next BA Flight booked directly through your account logged into your executive club account.
BA Best Price Match Verdict / Conclusions
As you can see from the above examples, BA can charge higher fares direct to their customers.
What most people are not aware that there are routinely cheaper fares out there to be grabbed outside of booking directly with British Airways for the exact Same fare.
It seems crazy that the flight provider would charge more for exactly the same flight but online booking agencies are provided fares at cheaper prices by the supplier.
To save money on your flights, all you need to do is a bit of initial research before pushing the button and paying. It’s a s easy as that…
We recommend you follow our guidelines above, if you follow all the instructions and submit your evidence, you will receive the fare difference back quickly.
To maximise your return, ensure you Sign up to the BA Executive Club to claim double the difference back.
We hope you have learned something new by reading our article today, if you have any questions please leave a comment below.
In this article today, we attempt to Cut the Jargon on the subject of “Tier Points” on British Airways and provide an easy to follow User Guide on the subject.
We also have provided you a handy Calculator to check how many TP’s you can earn per flight.
For anyone who is not familiar with the terminology “Tier Points“, on BA these are points earnt when you fly on any cash element fare booking or with other OneWorld alliance partners. The amount of points you earn depends on your ticket type and fare class, destination and the amount of miles flown. On these flights you will also earn Avios Points which can be redeemed for flights, seat selection, meals / drinks etc.
Firstly, you will need to become a member of the BA Executive Club membership scheme to collect Tier Points and Avios Points on all bookings. You start your membership off on Blue Membership at 1st Tier, the 2nd Tier is Bronze, 3rd Tier Is Silver & 4th Top Tier is Gold Membership.
However, Tier Points do expire after a certain amount of time but Avios Points do not.
Without joining the Executive Club you cannot earn Avios or Tier Points.
As you can see above from the chart provided, each Tier comes with its own rewards and as you progress through the Tiers, you will receive increased rewards for flying on British Airways.
How many BA Tier Points do I get?
The amount of Tier Points you get depends firstly on the booking class of you fare. You earn Tier Points for flying in Economy, Premium Economy, Business & First Class. How many points you earn also depends on the amount of Miles you fly in total on each flight.
Can you buy BA Tier Points?
You cannot buy BA Tier Points directly from the airline like Avios Points. However, you can indirectly purchase Tier Points by flying on British Airways flights, cash paid tickets.
What are Tier Points with BA?
Tier Points on BA are points earnt when you fly on any cash element bookings. The amount of points you earn depends on your ticket type and fare class, destination and the amount of miles flown.

BA Tier Points Table / Chart:

Now you understand the BA Executive Membership levels and the benefits of collecting Tier Points, we can move onto how to collect TP’s for the cheapest fares available.
Tier Points – Easiest & Cheapest Way’s to Collect within Europe
Remembering that Bronze level requires atleast 2 x BA Segmented Flights completed and the requirement to earn a minimum of 300 x TP’s, we will now look at the easiest routes to meet the requirements.
To make Bronze level the fastest and the cheapest way, we are looking for BA Segmented Flights or Returns that will make atleast 300 x TP’s.
Unfortunately, you would have to fly a Long Haul Route to earn 300 x TP’s over 2 x Segments which will be more expensive than flying Short haul.
BA Flights Club Europe – 80 TP’s One Way / 160 TP’s Return (Lon Departure)
Algiers / Athens / Bucharest / Catania / Chania / Corfu / Dalaman / Funchal / Gran Canaria / Helsinki / Heraklion / Istanbul / Kalamata / Kefalonia / Kiev / Kos / Lanzarote / Larnaca / Malta / Marrakech / Mykonos / Paphos / Reykjavik / Rhodes / Santorini / Skiathos / Sofia / St Petersburg / Tenerife / Thessaloniki / Tirana / Zakynthos.
By flying Return any of the routes in Club Europe, Business Class above you will have met all the requirements to be awarded BA Bronze Membership after only 2 x Return Flights as 160 TP’s x 2 = 320 Tier Points.
Now you have the data to enable you to gain higher Tier Levels within the British Airways Executive Club, we will look at the costs involved. Today, we will centre our attention on a famous Tier Point earning route London – Helsinki.

Summary / Conclusions
Today, we have set out how you can achieve Bronze BA Status by flying 2 x Return Flights and spending less than £500 or the great Silver Status for less than £1000.
The BA Luxury Sales offer immense value in Business Class, some amazing bargains can also be had if you add in a Hotel also, sometimes it can work out cheaper than the flights alone.
One point to remember when achieving BA Executive Club status is that status expires at the end of the following year of your accounts membership start date.
As an example, my Executive Club account states I opened my account in August. In order for me to gain nearly 2 x years of Status, I would need to complete 2 x Flights earning 320 TP’s as quickly as possible, preferably in August.
Each month past your BA Executive Club account opening date that you have not fulfilled the requirements of status will result in that amount of time deducted off your status.
A lot of Tier Point Runs are completed as soon as possible after the flyers account anniversary date thus maximizing the time Status is held.
Another point to note when thinking of flying purely for the purpose of collecting Tier points is the value your getting for the expenditure. If for instance your only planning one trip using BA a year, it may not be cost worthy conducting a TP Run so it’s worth working out the benefits before you book & fly.

Fly British airways First Class – 40,000 Avios Points + £27.50
British Airways First Class is up there on most people’s “Bucket List” of flights to take atleast once in their lifetime!
The problem with flying British airways First Class are the eyewatering charges.
Desirable flights usually come with undesirable costs these days…
Fear not, you can actually fly British airways First Class for as little as only 40,000 Avios Points + £27.50 taxes from London Heathrow. This flight would usually cost you one way, per person £3249.00.
Before you think 40,000 Avios + £27.50 for BA First Class , yeah right.. This must be an upgrade charge from paying for a full fare in Club world.

Instant Seat Selection

Now, this may not sound much of a Perk to many but on British Airways, First Class fares are the only flights that you can select your seat at the time of booking or after for Free.
The only other way passengers flying on BA can select seats at the time of booking will be either paying to select your seat, using avios points or if you are British airways Silver / Gold Status Member.
To be able select your own seats at the time of booking is a definite perk, its no fun sitting next to a stranger for the duration of your flight.
This for me is one of the best Perks of flying BA First Class.

The proof below for you!
London Heathrow to Moscow
Now, Moscow may not be on everyone’s Top 10 List of places to visit in the world but to be able to experience BA First for such low amounts of avios points and taxes cheaper than a take-away, its certainly worth a trip to Moscow atleast once in your lifetime.
How to collect 40,000 avios points for less than £20.00
If your not already aware, American Express in the UK offer some extremely generous sign up bonuses when you take out one of their point earning cards.
To be able to collect 40,000 avios points, and as an extra bonus of a 2-4-1 Companion voucher which is enough to to fly you and a partner on BA First Class to Moscow, you will need to take out the British airways American Express Premium Plus card.
The British airways american express premium plus card offers new customers as a sign up bonus of 25,000 avios avios when you spend £3000 in the first three months of taking the card out.
But you still need 15,000 more avios points to fly this British airways First class route..
To collect the 2-4-1 BA Amex Companion Voucher the requirements are you need to spend £10,000 within 12 Months.
If you spend £10,000 within 12 Months of taking out the BAPP Card , you will receive the benefits detailed below:
25,000 avios points when you spend your first £3000. (26,000 click our Links)
Spend another £7000 and receive a free 2-4-1 Companion Voucher
Every £1.00 spent on the card earns 1.5 Avios points – £10,000 spent = 15,000 avios points
15,000 + 25,000 avios = enough Avios to fly One Way in First Class.
You said for less than £20.00…
The British airways American Express Premium Plus card costs £195.00 in annual fee’s.
However, this card comes with refundable pro-rate fee’s so if you have large purchases to make which could total £10,000 in your first month, you will only be charged the pro-rate fees approximately £16.00 for the month.
You can then wait to receive the confirmation of your 2-4-1 Companion Voucher which can take approximately one week then cancel the BAPP card.
This will result in a refund of 11 months of your annual fees back to you to your account.
However, there is catch!
The catch is not connected with receiving the avios points, but paying the tax element when using your 2-4-1 Companion Voucher.
American express have a rule that to pay for any taxes applicable when using the voucher, the taxes have to be paid using an American Express card. It does not have to be card you received the voucher on but any Amex card.
The solution we have found to this small issue would be to downgrade the BA Amex Premium Plus card down to fee free British airways American Express card & keep this card forever like we do.
We have written an in-depth review on both the BA Amex cards, click here to read our full review > BA AMEX CARD REVIEW <

How to Fly British airways Club World Seats for only £148.00
Have you ever wanted to fly on British Airways or Iberia in Business Class Long Haul seats or but just cannot afford to pay Thousands of Pounds?
To experience BA / IB Business Class or Club World Seats for just £148.00 or £325.24 Return is achievable if you know where to look.
The facts are that British airways & Iberia fly regularly from London to Madrid Return using Long Haul aircraft such as the Boeing 777 / Airbus A340 which consist of Business Class or Club World Cabins & some with First Class Cabins.
These Long Haul Boeing 777 / A340 aircraft are used on these routes regularly to transport Cargo which is a major result for anyone flying in Business.
If you buy a fare in BA Club Europe or on Iberia Business Class on the correct flights, you will be sitting in Long-haul Club World Seats or Iberia Long haul Business class seats for as little as £148.00 or £325.24 Return.
On the London Heathrow to Madrid route, most of the time you will be flying on the Airbus A320 / A321 aircraft as below.
But, if you select the correct departure times on the same route, you will be flying on the Boeing 777 / Airbus A340 Long-Haul aircraft below.
Now lets take a look at the difference in the Business Class seats on the A320/321 & the Boeing 777 / Airbus A340 aircraft.
British airways Club Europe Seats
The Club Europe cabin is situated at the front of the plane on all the A320/321 aircraft. The difference between Club Europe Business Class Seats & an Economy seat on the A320/321 are the middle seat is kept free with a tray table. This enables the passengers in Club Europe Seats to enjoy a guaranteed window or aisle seat and more privacy if flying solo or more room to work or relax.
The seats in Club Europe come with 76.2cm or 30 inch seat pitch with fully movable headrests but are basically the same size as an economy seat on the same flight.

British airways Club World Seats 777
British airways Club World Seats are all Lie-flat. This enables passengers to lie down flat and sleep in their seat if you wanted, something the Club Europe Seats do not provide.
The Club World Seats come with their own In Flight Entertainment screens and controls fitted, however we believe that these are not operational as Club Europe flights do not provide any IFE on its flights.
You do however get the entire Club World Seat and all its functions as if you were flying Long Haul. This includes power sockets, moveable tray tables, footrest, movable separation panels for privacy, adjustable seat angle pitch by controls set next to your seat.
Due to configuration of Club World, the outer pair seats provide almost complete privacy if seated next to the Window.
All Club World seats when lied flat measure 183cm or 6ft long. With a 20 inch width and 72 inch pitch towards Club Europe Seats at 30 inch seat pitch & 17 inch width.
You can see why if you have the choice between Club Europe & Club World seats on your route, you should definitely opt for the flights with Club World Cabins fitted.
The in-Flight dining options are the same as the Club Europe product on the A320/321.

When booking your inbound flight from Madrid to London Heathrow, you need to select the flight departing at 18.15 – 19.40 (BA0641).

To bag these Club World Seats on the Boeing 777 even cheaper, we found you can use up to 38,000 avios points in your account to reduce the return fare down to £125.24.
You will also earn 2358 avios points for the return flights which you could use to offset the amount of Avios Points needed to reduce the fare price by £200 down to 35,642 points.

Being approximately only 30 minutes from Male airport, the Waldorf Astoria have confirmed transfers to and from the resort will be by a luxury yacht accessible 24 hours a day according to information received.
Update 15/05/19 – Pictures are now showing up on the internet of the Luxury yacht as below:
“Upon entering the airport arrivals hall, you will be met by a member of the resort Concierge team who will accompany you to your yacht transfer and assist you in all aspects of your arrival. The Concierge team will also provide this service upon departure at the end of your stay”.
A shared transfer on the resort’s private yacht is charged at US$350 + taxes and service per person, per way. It’s still yet to be confirmed if customers staying at the resort will be granted complimentary access to any lounge like the Conrad Lounge at Male Airport.
Room Award Availability
From February 2019, the resorts website started to display cash price’s per night for all accommodations. However, there were still no information listed officially if the resort would even be allowing award availability using Hilton honor points at this stage.
The highest award category points per night was usually 95,000 Hilton Honors before the Waldorf Astoria raised the total of points required to stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool to 120,000 HH points per night.
However, people who have already booked have been able to use the “Free Weekend Night” certificates earned via Credit Card offers against bookings which represent amazing savings in Hilton honor points or incredible cash savings on room bookings.
Also Hilton honors Silver / Gold or Diamond members receive “One free night for every five nights” booked + Hilton Gold / Diamond members also receive free Breakfasts on all stays.
We did not have a Hilton “Free Weekend Night” certificate, but one of us luckily was a Hilton Gold member. Our total Hilton honor points required for our 7 nights stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool came to a total of 720,000 HH points + $84.00 in resort taxes.
120,000 HH Points per night x 7 = 840,000 minus One night Free for being a Hilton Gold Member = 720,000 Hilton honor points.
These 720,000 HH points represent an approximate value against paying cash for a King Beach Villa with Pool in March of $12,215.00 (standard room rate) + 23.2% in taxes = $2833 – final total cost saving $15,048.00.
The King Beach Villa with Pool
The King Beach Villa with Pool is super luxurious Accommodation featuring a seperate living space, bathroom, internal & external showers, private garden & terrace including your own pool.
Each King Beach Villa is approximately 234 square meters of space, featuring luxury furnishings, bedding and facilities.
In your terrace area with pool, you also get a hammock strung between two Palm trees, deck Sun lounger and canopy then leading onto the beach in front of your beach villa. Within a minutes walk from your beach Sun lounger, your back in your Beach Villa.
Swim in the shallow, Crystal clear warm waters of the Maldives.
With a 65 inch Television, Free Wi-Fi, Refrigerator , Coffee Machine with supplies replenished everyday.
The King Beach Villa with Pool Accommodation is suitable for up to two adults & two Children.
How we collected the Hilton Points…
Firstly, we did have a bit of a head start on our collection of Hilton honor points as a result from our previous stay at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.
Due to us being Hilton Diamond members, our Conrad Maldives stay all on Points resulted in Hilton crediting back to our accounts over 190k HH Points for free. Hilton status members receive a certain percentage of points back on stays when using points for all bookings.
100% ELITE STATUS BONUS
With Diamond elite status, you automatically receive a 100% bonus on all the Hilton Honors Base Points you earn.
We both then signed up to the American express Gold Card which enabled us to earn 25,000 Amex Reward points each. This included being referred to the American express preferred rewards card which provided us 22,000 Amex Reward points instead of 20,000.
We both then took out free supplementary Amex Gold Cards on both accounts providing us an additional 3,000 MR Points each.
22,000 Amex Gold Card Sign up Bonus + 3,000 Amex MR Bonus for each Supplementary Card per account.
Total Amex Membership Reward Points = 50,000 MR Points.
American express Reward Points transfer over to Hilton honor accounts at a rate of 2:1 so a total of 100,000 Hilton honor points.
Unfortunately, American Express very recently have reduced the Amex Gold Card Sign up Bonus to 10,000 Membership Reward Points but if you “Contact Us” we can get you an additional Bonus of 2,000 MR Points so a total of 12,000 Amex Reward Points + 3,000 points for your first supplementary card = 15,000MR Points all for Free.
If you would like to earn the equivalent of 30,000 Hilton honor Points for free like we did each, Click here >CONTACT US< and we will send you all the details.
Buying Hilton Points offer
Recently, Hilton have been promoting an amazing deal open to all Hilton honor members. To be able to take advantage of this great offer, you will need to sign up to the Hilton honor membership scheme by clicking here: https://www.hilton.com/en/hilton-honors/
This offer includes the benefit of buying Hilton Points whilst attracting up to a 100% Bonus on all point purchases.
The Hilton bonus point offer runs until 28th May, 2019.
Registered members of the Hilton honours loyalty scheme will earn 100% Bonus Points on all purchases of points starting at 5000 points.
An additional 100% Bonus Points will be awarded for every purchase of points up to a maximum of 80,000 points per member, per calendar year.
Points will be credited to members accounts within 24 hours from purchase.
Hilton reserve the right to withdraw the promotion at any time.
Hilton allow all members to purchase up to 80,000 HH Points per calendar year. Using the bonus point offer you will receive an additional 80,000 HH Points on a purchase of the maximum yearly allowance 80,000 + 80,000 = 160,000 Hilton honor points.
We took advantage of our full years allowance by utilising this offer so we purchased 80,000 HH Points each resulting in a total of 320,000 Hilton honor points.
This cost us $800 x 2 = $1600.00 in total which gave us 320,000 HH Points.
We used our points to redeem against 2 x nights + 80,000 HH Points left over or another 2/3rds of another night at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives = 2 nights + 2/3 of a night.
When you look at the value we achieved by purchasing those points in this latest Promotion, you can see why we jumped on this deal as soon as it turned up in our inbox.
To purchase 2 nights + 2/3rds of a night would cost in cash to pay for the King Beach Villa with Pool – $4661.70, by utilising this Hilton buy Points offer cost us $1600 representing a saving of $3061.70.
If your thinking of booking the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives for as cheap as possible, we would strongly recommend buying your full yearly allowance each.
We have provided the link to the offer here – Hilton Buy Points
At this stage by utilising the Amex Gold Card Sign up Bonus Points offers and the latest Hilton buy points offer, we were sitting at 610,000 Hilton honor points, only 110,000 HH Points left to collect.
We made up the remaining points by using some Virgin Atlantic Miles transferred over to Hilton which transfers over at a rate of 2:3 and two Amex Gold Card 10,000 MR Points anniversary bonus points each.
The Amex anniversary bonus points transferred over to Hilton bagged us 40,000HH Points.
Our Verdict / Recommendations
By following the methods we used, we were able to collect all the Hilton Honor points required to stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool. You can also save yourself thousands against the cash purchase prices at the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi Maldives.
In total, a 7 Night stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool cost us only $1684.00 against the cash purchase cost – $15,048.00
That represents a total cash saving of$13,364.00
Our recommendations would be to sign up to our Newsletter to ensure you receive to your inbox any new Hilton Bonus Point offers.
Take out the American Express Gold Card to bag the 30,000 Hilton Honor points for freeeach via our link we can send to you, if you “Contact Us”.
Also, if you will need to acquire Hilton GoldStatus to bag the “One Free Night for every Five nights” booked which also will provide you with Free Breakfasts at this resort for all persons staying in your accommodation (Estimated Value $100 each per day).

How to Use AAdvantage Miles to Book Qatar / Etihad Business & First Class Flights 2019
Today, we look at How to use American airlines AAdvantage Miles to book Partner airline flights like Qatar / Etihad Business & First Class using the minimal amount of points & taxes. In this article we research in detail the process of booking Premium class routes using AAdvantage miles, Tips & Tricks and the Pitfalls of the AA Search availability tool.
Book Qatar & Etihad Business / First Class using AAdvantage Points
Firstly, if you’ve found this page and not started collecting American airlines AAdvantage miles yet, we have written another post on how to collect large amounts of AAdvantage Miles fast by clicking here – Collect AA Miles
American airlines AAdvantage frequent flyer miles scheme is open to anyone to join, even if you never fly AA.
American airlines is part of the largest alliance in the world called the OneWorld alliance which includes airlines such as British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LATAM, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines & SriLankan Airlines.
Being part of such a large alliance certainly has its benefits, especially when it comes to collecting & spending loyalty miles on other alliance airlines.
Today we will centre our attention on redeeming AA miles on Qatar & Etihad airlines. If your not already aware, Qatar & Etihad have some of the best Business or First Class products out there.
Qatar have recently launched the amazing Q-Suite Business product below.
Or the outstanding Etihad First Class apartment below…
Both these amazing products sell for anything between £4000 – £8000 return. However, these same seats can be booked in the business class product for as little as 85k AA points return depending on your departure & destination points or 125k in First Class return per person.
Below, we have attached the AAdvantage miles redemption chart.
We have just booked Qatar in Business Class from London to the Maldives for 42.5k AA miles each, one way. The cash ticket price for this one way fare was £6228.04 for a total of 85k AA miles plus £452.00 in taxes.
The taxes are higher flying from the U.K due to the APD charges but are compensated by considerably lower taxes on a return journey.
Unfortunately the Qatar A350 flight with Q-Suites installed from London was not available on our chosen dates so we booked Business Class on the A380 instead, seat pictures below.
Did we forget to mention the bar area with the “help yourself to £100 a bottle of Champagne”….
Just a little bit better than British airways Club World…
We managed to accumulate 85k AA miles through the Amex SPG Credit Card bonuses for the both of us and other routes as covered in our previous article.
How to Book Qatar / Etihad using AAdvantage Points
Once you have signed into your AAdvantage account, simply use the search flights facility on the home page making sure you check the Redeem Miles box.
You will then be served on the following page the option to select which flight class you require, Economy / Business or First Class.
This page also displays the amount of AAdvantage Miles required in each class of seat.
As you can see above, one way from London to Doha is 42.5k AA miles per person in Business Class, this is the same amount of miles to fly on two legs from London to the Maldives stopping to change planes in Doha.
Now you click on Continue to be served on the following page a list of results of flights on your chosen date and class of cabin as below.
We used this process and successfully booked our flight from London Heathrow to Male airport in the Maldives in Business Class on the A380 / A330.
When you book your flights on partner airlines using your AAdvantage account, you do receive an email confirmation of your booking but it’s not guaranteed at that point.
AA reserve your booking issuing what they call a “Certificate” but have to wait for the partner airline to confirm the booking. This process can take up to 24 hours to be confirmed by the partner airline, your AA account will display your booking as “On request” at this stage.
When your flights have been confirmed by the partner airline, the status in your account automatically changes to “Ticketed” and you will receive an updated email confirmation.
Only when you see that your flights are Ticketed is when your flights are booked and confirmed.
After 24 hours our booking was still not “Ticketed” and still stating “On Request” in our account and no confirmation booking email received. If you find yourself in this situation you need to do call AA Customer Services.
In reality anything that goes wrong in connection with your booking can make it not process correctly to Ticketed. In our case, something went wrong with our payment for the taxes by credit card even though no restrictions were placed on our card and all the correct details were entered at the payment screen.
These errors are not common and another IT issue for customers to deal with. In theory this could ultimately result in your flight not being booked. If you have any concerns just simply pick up the phone Customer Services like we did, the payment was taken again over the phone and within 10 minutes our flights were Ticketed and confirmed.
Now for our Return Journey (The Pitfalls of AA Redemptions)
With over 20 x results displayed in front of us for our requested Return Flights from the Maldives Male airport to London Heathrow, we thought this was going to be a Breeze with so many flight results.
What we didn’t know at the time of searching availability using the AA site were that the results displayed, isn’t all it seems…
It appears there maybe an IT issue connected to the displayed results, this is what has been named as the AA award availability “Phantom Listings“. Phantom listings on the AA site are flights displayed as available, when in fact they are not.
Even if you wait until 12.00am on the earliest available date, 330 days out from your preferred dates of flying, seat awards may still not be available as we discovered. When we clicked on the displayed results, each one came back as not available.
Now we were getting a bit nervous, will we be able to get a return flight?
How to find availability on AA using other airline search facilities
There are various ways of checking the real availability of flights using American airlines AAdvantage miles.
British airways Executive Club
These include using the British airways Executive Club account and searching availability through that account instead. The British airways results displayed for your chosen dates are actually available and can be booked.
If you come across availability on the BA account site but not showing as available through your AAdvantage account, you will need to call the AA reservations line quoting the Qatar flight numbers and times. AA Customer Services will be able to book your flights over the phone for you.
Qantas Site Search Facility
Using exactly the same process as the British airways executive club account search, you can use the Qantas site to search availability as both airlines are in the OneWorld alliance and serve up the same availability.
You will need to be members of both accounts before you can search availability, both airline accounts are free to join.
Unfortunately, even after using the AAdvantage site search, British airways executive club and the Qantas site search facilities, our return flights required were not available on Qatar airlines unless we choose a flight consisting of 30 x hours with a day stop over in Doha.
How did we book our return flights using AAdvantage miles?
This is when other airlines within one alliance like Oneworld can save the day.
Our initial plan included using Qatar for our return flights as it was easy to just click a few buttons in our AAdvantage account and all our flights would be booked.
This wasn’t to be, so now onto “Plan B”…
We searched for our flights again but this time using a generic flight search tool like Google flights. Making a mental note of other alliance partner airlines, we discovered that Etihad also flew from MLE to LHR up to three times per day.
Plugging in our flight requirements into the Etihad Guest site, we were looking for availability using Etihad points. You need to navigate to the main Etihad site but look for the link to Etihad Guest. You do not need to be logged in to view availability of Etihad flights.
We were looking for availability on our chosen dates under “Guest Business“. Guest Business is the terminology for Business award flights availability using Etihad points. Availability was wide open on our preferred date with the first flight of the day being 5 hours less in flight duration.
Unfortunately, you cannot book Etihad award flights within your AAdvantage online account so you need to call the American airlines Reservation line to book using Etihad award availability flights.
I have read many comments online that you need to call the Reservations lines outside of your country to book AA award flights on Etihad airlines. We found just calling the U.K American airlines reservation line, details found here – to absolutely work fine, our agent knew how to book all partner airline flights.
You need to have all the flight details, dates & times and the Etihad flight numbers to hand when calling the reservations line. After about 5 minutes, our return flights on Etihad were all booked.
One point to note if you book Etihad flights over the phone with AA, ensure you receive the Etihad Reservation reference from the booking agent. You will need this reservation reference to locate your bookings in the Etihad site enabling you to select your seats.
Just another slight issue we faced..
When we logged into the Etihad site and entered our reservation number, we were only able to select seats for the person who booked the fare. After numerous attempts to select my wife’s seats I decided to call the Etihad Customer services line, they quickly reserved our seats on all flights so we were seated together on both legs.
The result was booked flights on the Etihad A388 / A380 in Business Class which would have cost £5492 all for 85k AA miles plus £113.80 in taxes.
Total cash price for all flights for 2 x persons – £11,702.04
Our Verdict / Recommendations
Update: You can now book Etihad Business & First flights through the AAdvantage website instead of needing to call up an AA agent to book.
Apart from the few issues we experienced along the way, the final result was a series of amazing business class flights on some of the best airlines in the world.
The total price for our outgoing and incoming flights would have cost us in cash £11,720.04 which in reality cost us only 170k AAdvantage Miles + £565.80 in taxes.
All this for 170k AAdvantage miles which can easily be achieved by taking out two SPG Amex Credit cards and utilising other routes to collect AA miles we have highlighted in our previous article.
If you fancy Business / First class flights on some of the world’s most luxurious flights using minimal amount of points and small amount of taxes, simply follow our step by step guide in this article.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment and we will always reply.
How to collect AAdvantage Miles to Book Partner Airline Flights 2019
If your planning to use American airlines AAdvantage miles to book flights on various Oneworld alliance partners such as Qatar / Etihad, then this article will highlight for you the Tips needed to collect enough miles to book Business / First Class Flights using only miles and minimal taxes. We look at all the current ways available to collect large amounts of AA miles in the U.K.
How to collect AAdvantage Miles in the U.K.
For most based in the U.K, there are a few limited routes to collect AA miles in comparison to residents in the U.S.
However, with a few Tips here you can collect enough miles to redeem on various American airline partners in the OneWorld alliance. These partners include Qatar, British airways & Qantas & Etihad amongst many others.
So how do you collect enough AAdvantage miles to redeem on Partner airlines in Business or even First Class?
The quickest & easiest route we found to collect large amounts of points which can be transferred to AAdvantage are through the American Express SPG Starwood credit card.
As an introductory bonus, the Amex SPG card in the U.K offers all new applicants a very generous 30,000 points bonus when you spend £1,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership. 30,000 SPG points can be transferred to American airlines AAdvantage loyalty scheme at a rate of 1:1.
SPG (Starwood) have now merged with Marriott but the SPG Amex card still exists in the U.K for time being but could be withdrawn at any time.
We can go one better and provide you an increased rate of SPG points when you take out the American Express credit card by CONTACTING USusing the link in our Menu first & we will send you by email all the details required. This increased bonus rate offers all new applicants 10% extra bonus points – 33,000 SPG points instead.
You could also take out the American Express Gold Credit Card, Our Review found by clicking here – American Express Gold Credit Card. If you’re a new applicant to the Gold Card you will receive 22,000 MR Points transferable to Marriott Bonvoy which can be transferred onto AAdvantage by “Contacting Us” also.
You only need 42,500SPG points converted to AAdvantage to enable you to fly with a partner one way in Business Class to locations such as the Maldives. That would only leave you to collect another 9500 SPG points to bag those Qatar / Etihad Business Class flights to an exotic location by simply taking out a credit card & spending £1000 in three months.
Once your referred by us to the SPG American express card, you can take out another SPG Amex card for your partner doubling your SPG points to 66,000 points. That is enough points to fly Business Class one way & have enough points left over by nearly 50% needed for the return flights.
Crediting OneWorld Flight Miles to AAdvantage
When you fly on most airlines, you will earn loyalty points / miles which can usually be transferred to or used against another airline within the same alliance.
If you fly on any airline within the OneWorld alliance, you can credit your miles earnt by flying on a cash paid ticket to American Airlines.
Other airlines within the OneWorld alliance include British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LATAM, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines & SriLankan Airlines.
Most of the Oneworld alliance airlines make it easy to credit your miles during the booking process to another partner airline. All you need to do is look for the partner section within your booking account & enter your chosen alliance members account number and you will earn the miles credited to your chosen alliance partner.
Unfortunately, on some rare occasions the miles may not automatically credit to your chosen alliance member so its best practice to double-check your reservation a few days after you have completed your flight. This will ensure your miles have credited to the correct alliance partner.
On some occasions, if you do not see your miles credit to the other alliance member all you will need to do is contact your airlines Customer Service department who should be able to resolve any issues.
Transferring Hotel Points to AAdvantage
American airlines allow various Hotel Points to be credited to your AAdvantage account. If you do not have any plans for your hotel points then crediting these to your AAdvantage account can help build your miles balance faster towards those Business / First class flights.
