The Bonus 25,000 Avios Points Introductory Offer

British airways American Express premium plus credit card

The British airways American Express Premium Plus Card is currently the highest earning bonus avios point credit card on the market today in the UK.

Recently many Credit Card companies have been slashing their previously generous bonus point offers or completely removing them from the market. This is due to the new European Union rules imposed in the UK on financial institutes and how much they can charge fees to the Public & Companies using financial payment products.

But amazingly, American Express have decided, for the present atleast not reduce or remove the very generous sign up bonus point offer with the British airways premium plus card. For how long we do not know but most people have decided to not take the chance and have taken out the card now just in case its scrapped.

Once you take out this card, American Express cannot reduce the bonuses or remove them as by signing up for the agreement, both parties involved are contractually bound by the conditions offering you protection.

Back to that generous 25,000 Bonus Avios point offer…

BAPP Amex eligibilityEvery new customer of the American Express British airways Premium plus credit card or a customer which has not held this card in the last 24 x months can receive the 25,000 Bonus avios points offer.

  • Grocery shopping – virtually all supermarkets in the UK now accept Amex as a payment option. If your a family of 3-4, you can easily spend on groceries per month £300 – £500 and a couple at £200 – £400.
  • Online Purchases – with online purchases of nearly everything these days, it is easy to spend your online purchases using your new American Express card. If you do not see Amex as a payment option at the checkout, most retailers now offer PayPal which you can use to select Amex as your selected payment provider.
  • Entertainment – virtually all Public houses / Bars / Restaurants now accept card payment, most will also accept Amex. But always check first, if its a major chain & they do not accept American express,  they most likely have Gift Cards available which can be purchased from your Supermarket which accepts Amex as payment.
  • Bill Payment – you will be pleasantly surprised to read that you can usually use American Express to pay your utility bills online. Even if you have a Direct Debit set up, you can still make overpayments using your credit card.
  • Supplementary Cards – double your spending power on your new BAPP card by giving your partner / spouse a supplementary card for all their spending.

You can probably see by reading our tips above how easy it is to spend the required amount within three months to collect that generous 25,000 Avios point bonus.

British airways American Express Companion Voucher 2-4-1

One of the biggest advantages of the American Express British airways Premium Plus Card is the Free Companion Voucher otherwise known as the 2-4-1 voucher.

The British Airways Companion Voucher enables the account holder, once they have spent £10,000 in a year using the BAPP card to receive 2-4-1 travel. That means you can take a Companion with you for Free when you use Avios Points to book your chosen flight/s.

It’s basically like a BOGOF (Buy one, get one free) offer by American Express inconjunction with British airways. The 2-4-1 Companion Voucher is valid from the date of issue for 24 Months so gives you plenty of time to find your preferred flights. All you need to remember is that you need to have flown atleast the outbound part of your flights before the 24 month expiry date on your voucher, the inbound section can be anytime afterwards.

This allows you, as the account holder with a Companion Voucher to take a companion with you on the same flight and cabin when you redeem your Avios Points for a British Airways avios reward flight. Taxes, fees and carrier charges do apply though.

The Amex 2-4-1 Companion Voucher can if used correctly, achieve amazing savings on your flights.

Example: You book a First Class return flight on British Airways using Avios Points, Your Companion then flies completely free even in First Class return. This 2-4-1 Voucher can represent savings when using BA First class as much as £6000 – £8000.

Taxes & Surcharges are applicable when booking Reward flights using avios points.

Conclusions / Verdict / Opinions

BA PREMIUM PLUS AMEX CARD

There is no better earning Avios Point credit card on the UK market today than the BA Amex Premium Plus Card.

The generous benefits of 25,000 Avios points bonus, free 2-4-1 Companion Voucher & 1.5 Avios points per pound spent is outstanding.

The only drawback is the annual fee of £195.00 but you can reduce the annual fee by signing up for the card, spending £10,000 as quickly as possible. Then bag the 25,000 Avios points bonus & the 2-4-1 Voucher and downgrade to the fee free BA Amex card – Review Found Here > BA AMEX CARD REVIEW

The Rules when paying for the Tax element of your 2-4-1 voucher redemption on flights are that you have to pay using your BA Amex card. In reality you can use any Amex card but downgrading to the Fee Free BA Amex works fine.

How to Fly British Airways First Class – 40,000 Avios Points + £27.50

Fly British airways First Class – 40,000 Avios Points + £27.50

British Airways First Class is up there on most people’s “Bucket List” of flights to take atleast once in their lifetime!

The problem with flying British airways First Class are the eyewatering charges.

Desirable flights usually come with undesirable costs these days…

Fear not, you can actually fly British airways First Class for as little as only 40,000 Avios Points + £27.50 taxes from London Heathrow. This flight would usually cost you one way, per person £3249.00.

Before you think 40,000 Avios + £27.50 for BA First Class , yeah right.. This must be an upgrade charge from paying for a full fare in Club world.

Your wrong, this is no Upgrade charge. This is a full British Airways First Class fare from outbound to final destination.

What do I get when Booking British Airways First Class?

Instant Seat Selection

BA First Class 777

At the Point of Booking your First Class tickets, all passengers automatically receive accessibility within their British airways executive club account to select which seat they prefer to be seated in within the First cabin.

Now, this may not sound much of a Perk to many but on British Airways, First Class fares are the only flights that you can select your seat at the time of booking or after for Free.

The only other way passengers flying on BA can select seats at the time of booking will be either paying to select your seat, using avios points or if you are British airways Silver / Gold Status Member.

To be able select your own seats at the time of booking is a definite perk, its no fun sitting next to a stranger for the duration of your flight.

This for me is one of the best Perks of flying BA First Class.

Now, Moscow may not be on everyone’s Top 10 List of places to visit in the world but to be able to experience BA First for such low amounts of avios points and taxes cheaper than a take-away, its certainly worth a trip to Moscow atleast once in your lifetime.

How to collect 40,000 avios points for less than £20.00

British airways American Express card vs BA Amex Premium Plus card

If your not already aware, American Express in the UK offer some extremely generous sign up bonuses when you take out one of their point earning cards.

To be able to collect 40,000 avios points, and as an extra bonus of a 2-4-1 Companion voucher which is enough to to fly you and a partner on BA First Class to Moscow, you will need to take out the British airways American Express Premium Plus card.

The British airways american express premium plus card offers new customers as a sign up bonus of 25,000 avios avios when you spend £3000 in the first three months of taking the card out.

But you still need 15,000 more avios points to fly this British airways First class route..

British airways Amex companion voucher

To collect the 2-4-1 BA Amex Companion Voucher the requirements are you need to spend £10,000 within 12 Months.

If you spend £10,000 within 12 Months of taking out the BAPP Card , you will receive the benefits detailed below:

  • 25,000 avios points when you spend your first £3000. (26,000 click our Links)
  • Spend another £7000 and receive a free 2-4-1 Companion Voucher
  • Every £1.00 spent on the card earns 1.5 Avios points – £10,000 spent = 15,000 avios points
  • 15,000 + 25,000 avios = enough Avios to fly One Way in First Class.

You said for less than £20.00…

The British airways American Express Premium Plus card costs £195.00 in annual fee’s.

However, this card comes with refundable pro-rate fee’s so if you have large purchases to make which could total £10,000 in your first month,  you will only be charged the pro-rate fees approximately £16.00 for the month.

You can then wait to receive the confirmation of your 2-4-1 Companion Voucher which can take approximately one week then cancel the BAPP card.

This will result in a refund of 11 months of your annual fees back to you to your account.

However, there is catch!

The catch is not connected with receiving the avios points, but paying the tax element when using your 2-4-1 Companion Voucher.

American express have a rule that to pay for any taxes applicable when using the voucher, the taxes have to be paid using an American Express card. It does not have to be card you received the voucher on but any Amex card.

The solution we have found to this small issue would be to downgrade the BA Amex Premium Plus card down to fee free British airways American Express card & keep this card forever like we do.

For me, this is one of the “Stand Out” benefits of this card. Why would you want to pay £195.00 a year for a credit card that only offers you a few more benefits than one for free?

With all fee free credit cards, we take them out and keep them forever in the wallet or in the drawer to use later. It doesn’t matter if you do not use the card for a while, your not paying anything for it.

BA Amex Blue Card Avios Earning Rate

British airways American Express sign up bonus

The British airways American Express card earns Avios loyalty points at a rate of 1 point per £1.00 spent.

Now, considering this card is completely free with No annual fee’s ever, this makes this card extremely generous when you compare it to other avios point earning cards on the market today.

The American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card, Review found by clicking the link here > American Express Gold Card Review < earns Avios Points at the same rate but you only get your first year for Free.

Year 2 and every membership year after for the Amex Gold Card will cost you £140.00 in fee’s.

American express is becoming more & more popular these days and many retailers are starting to accept Amex on the high street and Online for payment, so using the card to rack up those avios points will never be a problem for you.

The British Airways American Express Companion Voucher

British airways Amex companion voucher

By far the biggest perk of the American express British airways card is the Free British airways Companion Voucher.

The British Airways Companion Voucher enables the account holder to receive 2-4-1 travel with a Companion Voucher when you spend £20,000 each membership year on your British airways American Express Card, expires after 12 months.

This allows you, as the account holder with a Companion Voucher to take a companion with you on the same flight and cabin when you redeem your Avios Points for a British Airways avios reward flight. Taxes, fees and carrier charges do apply though.

The Amex Companion Voucher is a 2 for 1 saving on the total amount of avios points required for an avios point reward flight.

How to Book an Award Flight using your BA Companion Voucher

Calculate how many Avios Points are required for you to take a trip entirely using Avios points return and the second person Flying with you (Companion) flies completely Free, Its like a Buy one, Get one Free offer!

Remember that the entire award booking will be subject to taxes to pay.

To book a British airways Avios award ticket/s, navigate within your British airways Executive Club and follow the images displayed below:

Ensure you select from the drop down box on the left hand side of your British airways Executive Club Club page to display “Book with Avios“.

Enter your departure airport from within the UK (BA Companion Vouchers only work when departing from the UK). Then your destination airport, select Return and your preferred dates.

Next, you can use the “Reward Flight Finder” or “Search and Book” sections as above to find an overview of availability on your chosen dates or see availability for your chosen cabin class across all months up to a year in advance.

Next, select your inbound flight in your chosen cabin class and date and press Continue.

You will then end up at your Avios Point Reward Booking summary page displaying all your selected dates and your selected cabin class of choice.

If you see the above example booking we carried out, it displays the total amount of Avios Points required and the total taxes to pay.

When using the American Express British airways Companion Voucher in your BAEC account, the total of Avios Points required for this booking would be halved so only 148,000 Avios points instead of 296,000.

The above example booking used First Class, Return fares for two passengers. Flying first Class using the BA Companion 2-4-1 Voucher in our opinion is the best value you can get when using a 2-4-1.(Cash Price £7000).

You still would have to pay £1,335.92 in taxes when using the BA Companion Voucher.

On your booking summary page there will be displayed a message if you would like to use your Companion Voucher.

Simply press on “Redeem” and your Companion Voucher will be applied to your booking and will automatically update the required amount of avios points required deduction 50%.

How to get the Best Value from the BA Companion Voucher

BA FIRST CLASS CABINS

In our opinion the best value when using your Companion Voucher would be to find availability on BA First Class.

Award availability using Avios Points can have its benefits. You can still find availability using points and your Companion Voucher when your chosen flight dates are all sold out.

Another good value for using avios points could be in “Peak Seasons” when flight prices are hiked high saving you thousands of pounds.

Economy Class is not worth it due to the taxes you still have to pay, choosing Economy could come out at roughly the same price of paying cash for the same fare ticket but at the same time wasting thousands of avios points & the 2-4-1 voucher.

You can hold up to 2 BA Companion Vouchers at any one time in your account. Or have Companion Vouchers in your account and Companion Vouchers in your partners BA account but still fly together in the same flights.

By having more than one 2-4-1 vouchers available means you can book family members on your flights.

How to Get a BA Amex Card Companion 2-4-1 Voucher for Spending £10,000 (Not £20,000)

BA Amex upgrade 241 voucher

American express allow you to upgrade your British airways American express Card to the British airways Premium Plus Card. This can be completed within your account or by calling Amex Customer Services to action.

Spend £10,000 on your British airways American Express Card, upgrade to the BA Premium Plus Card and shortly after you will receive an email notification that you have earnt a BA Companion Voucher.

At this point, to ensure you do not pay any fees on the BA Premium Plus Card, simply downgrade your card back to the BA Amex Card you originated with.

This tactic works and is common knowledge and allowed by Amex. Using this tip results in you receiving the same Companion Voucher issued by the £195.00 a year BA Amex Premium Plus Card but on the fee free card.

Now you know this trick, why would you pay £195.00 a year when you get almost the same benefits for Free?

British Airways American Express Card vs BA Amex Premium Plus Card

British airways American Express card vs BA Amex Premium Plus card

In this section we look at the British airways American Express Card vs the BA Amex Premium Plus Credit Card as a Comparison in Benefits & Value for Money.

As detailed above, we have been discussing mainly all the benefits of the BA Amex Blue Card, now lets look at the Black BA Amex Premium Plus benefits.

The British airways Premium Plus Card Benefits

26,000 Bonus Avios Points when you sign up and spend £3,000 in the first 3 Months of membership by clicking here> BA Amex Sign Up Bonus <Otherwise you will only earn 25,000 Bonus Avios Points Bonus.

You will earn 1.5 Avios Point for every £1.00 you spend using the BA Premium Plus Amex Card.

You receive a Companion Voucher otherwise known as the 2-4-1 voucher which entitles you when you buy One flight ticket using Avios Points, you get a Free ticket for your companion when you spend £10,000 a year on your BAPP Card, expiry 24 Months.

£195.00 Annual Fee, each & every Membership year.

Regular Bonus Point offers / Cashback offers in your account.

Free Travel Accident insurance cover protects you for up to £75,000 on public transport when you buy your ticket using your BA Amex Card.

24/7 Amex Customer Service even outside of the U.K.

Notice any similarities above to the BA Amex Blue Card?

BA Amex vs BA Premium Plus

So, the only difference in benefits we can see between the British airways American Express card vs the British airways Premium Plus Card are:

BAPP – 25,000 extra Avios Points but you need to spend £3000 in your first 3 Months of membership

BA Amex – 5,000 Avios Points when you spend £1000 in your first 3 Months of Membership.

BAPP – 1.5 Avios Points per £1.00 spent

BA Amex – 1.0 Avios Points per £1.00 spent

£195.00 annual fee for 20,000 extra Avios Points + 0.5 extra Avios Points per £1.00 spent.

My personal opinion is that 20,000 extra avios points plus 0.5 extra Avios Points per £1.00 spent does not justify £195.00 in annual fee’s!

Our Verdict / Recommendations

British airways American Express card vs BA Amex Premium Plus card

When you compare the two cards side by side for benefits, there is not a lot between the two in our opinion.

For the £195.00 annual fee your getting 20,000 extra avios and 0.5 extra avios on your spend. You could argue that having to spend £10,000 on the BAPP card will get you an extra 5,000 avios points from your spend = 25,000 Avios Points in total for £195.00.

Using our Tip, simply by Upgrading your British airways American Express Credit Card to the BA Amex Premium Plus Card by one click in your account or by calling up Amex Customer Services, you can have exactly the Same BA Companion 2-4-1 Voucher with an expiry date of 24 Months instead of 12 Months currently offered by the BA Blue Amex card.

All you need to remember is to downgrade your BAPP card back to your BA Amex card once you have been notified your 2-4-1 Companion voucher is ready to use in your British airways executive club. If you do this before the end of your first month of having the BAPP Card, you will not pay any Pro-rata fee’s applicable.

The Rules when paying for the Tax element of your 2-4-1 voucher redemption are that you have to pay using your BA Amex card. In reality you can use any Amex card but best to keep the BA Amex to pay, remember its free!

American Express have recently updated the Terms & Conditions relating to Customer Sign up Bonuses.

The Concorde Experience – Brooklands Museum Review 2019

The Concorde Experience – Brooklands Museum Review 2019

Concorde, the Supersonic passenger airliner which flew on the outskirts of space at twice the speed of sound, what is it like to see and feel in person the world’s fastest passenger aircraft?

Back in 2003, Concorde made its last ever flight and shortly after was retired from service. Nowadays, the only way to experience Concorde in all its glory as if you were sitting on its very last flight would be to visit one of the very few Concorde’s still in existence in the UK.

The concorde experience

Concorde Speedbird One, Cleared for Take-Off…

Concorde had a maximum speed of Mach 2 or 1,354 mph at twice the speed of sound, faster than a bullet. The aircraft held seats for 92 to 128 passengers and this legendary plane first flew in 1969 but only entered into commercial passenger transportation in 1976, then continued flying for the next 27 years until retirement in October 2003.

Mostly only the elite got to fly Concorde due to its high fare prices averaging around $8000 per person, return to New york. Travelling on Concorde, you could be seated next to the latest celebrity but every passenger was treated as a V.I.P on board.

Including an a la carte dining menu and an extensive list of the very best wines in the world at the time, this was flying at its finest…

Sadly, there are no commercial aircraft in operation which fly Supersonic like Concorde did back then but you can still experience the Speedbird today in all its glory in the U.K.

How to Experience Concorde Today

There are only six real life examples of Concorde still in existence in the U.K today and one of them can be found at the Brooklands Museum in Surrey (G-BBDG).

Other locations within the UK you can see other examples of Concorde include Yeovilton, Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum in Somerset, Duxford, Cambridge, at the Imperial War Museum, Manchester Airport, Runway Visitor park, East Fortune, Scotland Museum of flight, Filton, Bristol at the Bristol aerospace Centre.

How to Find Brooklands Museuem

The Concorde Experience Tour

As we arrived at the Concorde tour entrance we were greeted by a fellow museum volunteer member who explained all the facilities and other attractions we may be interested in which we will cover later on.

Concorde boarding ticket

A complimentary Concorde boarding ticket was provided to both of us which in itself is something to cherish, a great brag to friends and family.

How many people do you know have a Concorde boarding ticket…

This in itself is worth more than the admission price in our opinion.

We were given a few more details and then directed how to follow the official route to the Concorde.

When you see the Speedbird in all its glory, it truly is an awe-inspiring experience.

The Concorde sitting there in real life with us just looking up at its wingspan and under carriage is breathtaking. It’s kept impeccably clean and the old British airways livery brings back memories for me remembering the Speedbird soaring overhead at 11.30am when i used to live near Heathrow airport many years ago.

We were given a Pre-Flight briefing by a staff Member under Concorde which explained a few facts about the aircraft and what the 35 minute tour comprises of.

Then we made our way to the British airways branded staircase or otherwise known as airstairs as if we were about to board Concorde on a real life flight.

When at the bottom of the airstairs looking up you see off to your right the Concorde cockpit and the magnificent nose of the plane slightly angled downwards.

As we travelled up the airstairs towards the small door to the cabin you can almost think your about to board a real Concorde for a memorable journey of a lifetime. They certainly do details in the Concorde experience at Brooklands Museum extremely well.

Then with great anticipation we entered the cabin but unfortunately not greeted by British airways cabin crew staff, you can’t have everything!

For once recently, we had to turn right and not left to find our seat..

Once inside the cabin we quickly realised how small Concorde’s cabin actually was in real life. It felt inside about the same width of a standard short-haul aircraft like and a320. There were only two seats each side of a fairly narrow galleyway.

Concorde did not have different cabins like First or Business class so everyone on board sat in the same style seat and received the same treatment as everyone else aboard.

We also noticed that the ceiling of the aircraft was lower than normal commercial aircraft today.

We quickly sat down and took it all in, we were finally sitting in a real Concorde seat. There are also real Concorde seats still in existence today in the British airways Concorde room lounge at Heathrow airport accessible if you fly First Class from Heathrow or if you are a BA Gold Member.

Whilst seated you are shown a video on Concorde’s history displayed at the front of the cabin and later on they switched on the speed display boards located both sides of the cabin entrance, we were finally at Mach 2, twice the speed of sound.

To be fair, Concorde seats were comfy but felt smaller than a modern commercial aircraft seat today and the aisle looked narrower in width. The aircraft was designed to maximise space during production.

It must have been interesting if someone wanted to use the toilets whilst the cabin crew service was underway.

We sat in Seats located just above the enormous wings, what a view..

After the video presentation you are allowed to explore the entire aircraft at your leisure.

We sat in our seats for a short while looking at everything a passenger would have experienced in a real flight, then we decided to take a look up the front.

The toilets were small but compact and looked well designed with a small decorative flower in a vase. We believe the flower in British airways toilets used to be standard on Concorde and other Business / First Class flights on British Airways.

Then onto the Cockpit which also was very compact but impressive. The pilot’s door is left open and you can literally touch the controls and look out of the cockpits Windows as if you were the pilot’s in flight. To be in control of such an amazing aircraft must of been out of this world.

Before we knew it, it was time to leave the magnificent bird of the sky. It made us feel that its such a shame that Concorde had to be retired from service and made me wonder how many Avios Points would have it taken to fly in the cabin just once in my lifetime. I have read that some people managed to fly Concorde using the old air miles scheme.

Extra Experiences on offer

The Brookland Museum also offer extra experiences connected with the Concorde on site such as a flight simulator experience, Concorde champagne days on board, Mach 2 afternoon tea, weddings and private hosting.

For more information in these extras, please click the link below.

Opinion / Verdict

If you are interested in aviation, you will love the Concorde Experience at Brooklands Museum. Its been a long distance dream to experience Concorde in real life so to find one still in existence almost thirty years on since retirement and for only £5.00 each was almost a dream come true.

The tour guides are great and the presentation video including the Mach 2 displays on board do make it feel like your on a real Concorde flight.

To be provided a boarding ticket to Concorde now sits with our other flight memory tickets and is a definite keeper for life & all for a fiver.

We would recommend atleast taking a look inside the flight simulator system based on site even if you do not book the full experience.

All in all, its a great day out and comes highly recommended to anyone even if you’re not an AV Geek.

Next on our list of Concorde experiences, we plan to visit Concorde at Yeovilton, Somerset, future review to follow.

British Airways Club Europe Review 2019

British Airways Club Europe Review 2019

This was our first time flying on British airways Club Europe Business Class in 2019, so we had high expectations for this flight.

During our Review we will cover the BA Business class dedicated check-in zone, fast track security, BA club europe lounges, priority boarding, Catering, menu inc breakfast & lunch, seats, luggage & hand baggage allowance.

Using the Google Flights search facility, we found London to Tenerife at the lowest point on the price graph with availability was coming in at £330 each, a whopping £660 for the two of us. Time to switch to using avios points instead, availability in early March – 68k avios plus £98.00 Taxes, clicked and booked.

British Airways Club Europe flights in the regular BA Sales can be bagged for as little as £200 Return, per person. When you find a Club Europe flight that cheap we strongly recommend booking immediately as these sale fares sell out fast.

Another advantage of paying cash for Club Europe flights are you will be credited avios points for all flights and earn Tier Points from BA which after only two cash flights and earnt 300 x tier points will automatically gain your Bronze membership.

Gatwick to Tenerife flight map
Gatwick to Tenerife South flight map

Gatwick to Tenerife South is the only direct BA flights available in March from London taking approximately 4 hours, 20 mins consisting of 1,572 nautical miles using the Airbus A320 aircraft. Tenerife North is available from both Gatwick & Heathrow also but stops in Barcelona for 1.5 hours and the shortest flight takes approx 6 hours, 30 minutes.

BA Club Europe Dedicated Check-in Zones

BA Gatwick Dedicated Check-in
BA Gatwick Dedicated Check-in

When flying BA Business class in Europe, you receive as part of your flight package the use of the BA dedicated check-in zone.

From the main BA check in area,  we entered via an entrance signed as above. As we walked through we found ourselves in a queue awaiting service. Many Business Class luggage drop off booths were open and staffed but still some long queues.

We were directed to the First Class check-in booth on this occasion. The staff member was very attentive and chatty and attached a yellow First Class luggage label to our suitcases. Normally in Business Class you get an Orange luggage label which means your luggage receives priority within the baggage system.

BA Club Europe Fast Track Security

After our luggage drop off, we headed our way to the fast track security which is also part of your package if you fly BA Club Europe.

To find the fast track security lanes, you enter through the normal security area but then keep to the left through a dedicated fast track lane. There was one conveyor system for checking your hand baggage but the system worked efficiently and after only a few short minutes, we found ourselves already through.

Normally, the security gate system at Gatwick can at times be long and a frustrating wait. Fast track security is definitely a benefit in our opinion and highly recommended.

Once through fast track security, we made our way to the BA Business Galleries Lounge, our full Review found by clicking here BA Gatwick Lounge

British Airways Club Europe Baggage Allowance

Checked in luggage allowance is 2 x 32kg baggage allowance per person. The hand baggage allowance is 1 x laptop bag of 23kg and 1 x cabin bag of 23kg.

Extra baggage in size & weight can be booked in but will incur additional charges.

Please refer to the BA Baggage allowance dedicated page below:

https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/baggage-essentials

Does BA Club Europe have lounge access?

All British Airways Club Europe flights automatically provide all passengers lounge access to any BA Business Class Lounge throughout Europe. These lounges will be either run by BA or by another airline in the One World Alliance.

Access to all BA Business Class Lounges Will have certain restrictions such as opening & closing times, some lounges will have restrictions on the amount of time can be spent in the lounges also.

BA Club Europe Priority Boarding

Also part of the Club Europe package is Priority boarding of the plane.

By the time we had reached our boarding gate we just caught a Tannoy message requesting that all Business class passengers to board the plane now.

BA a320 priority boarding
BA CE A320 Priority Boarding

It appears that Short haul boarding is a lot quicker process than in Long haul.

Priority boarding is definitely a benefit in our opinion, just to be able to board the plane first gives you enough time to place your hand baggage away and be seated and settled before the bulk of passengers enter the same aisle.

British Airways Club Europe Cabin & Seats

As we entered the plane we were warmly greeted by the Cabin Crew who checked our tickets and directed us to our seat location/s in the front section of the plane.

On first impressions, the Club Europe Cabin looks exactly the same as in Economy.

There are no notable differences to us with the decor inside this Cabin unlike the differences between long haul Business & Economy class.

The real differences became apparent when we arrived at our seats.

The seat layout in Club Europe are the same as in economy consisting of three seats either side of the main aisle. However, the notable difference is that the centre seat is not used for a passenger, but utilised instead as a tray table.

This tray table in the centre seat enables passengers both sides to enjoy more width to stretch out and place cups / glasses or personal items on the table.

For a single traveller, this set up would also provide more privacy.

Club europe seats
BA Business Class Seats A320

We purposely choose seats as close to the front of the plane in the CE cabin as possible and managed to secure row 5, seats D/F.

This was due to us experiencing on our last BA Club World flight an unsatisfactory level of service by being unfortunately seated in the last row. It is common for meals to run out by the time the cabin crew have reached passengers in the last rows on BA.

If you’re not already aware, seat selection is not free even for Club Europe passengers.

To read our New article on whether you should pay or not to reserve BA Seats click here – BA Seat Selection.

The legroom of the seats in Club Europe are 30 inches with a seat width of 17 inches. This according to the official information provided by British airways is the same as an economy class seat.

Club Europe cabins do not supply any in-Flight entertainment of any kind. We were a little surprised to discover this as we were on a flight lasting nearly 4.5 hours.

Do you get food on BA Club Europe?

Yes, all BA Club Europe passengers receive a complimentary three course meal as part of their flight package. Meals will vary depending on the time of day at departure and the flights duration.

Breakfast dining service can include hot, cooked food, cold selections and muesli or pastries. All breakfast servings come with tea or coffee or Champagne / Wines.

Usually all meals will be accompanied by fresh bread rolls & butter / fruit juices. Most flights will also serve Tea or Coffee separate servings with a snack.

British Airways Club Europe Menu

Our outbound flight departed Gatwick at 9.20am to Tenerife so was within the time slot of the Breakfast serving.

I had already indulged in a cooked breakfast that morning at the Hampton by Hilton hotel – Gatwick North review found here – Hampton Hilton Gatwick North so decided against the full English again and opted for a lighter breakfast of continental meats and cheeses.

This dish came with meats, egg, olives & selection of different cheese’s such as Brie & Mozzarella. Also accompanying the main dish was a fresh fruit salad and a shortcake style dessert with the usual Bread roll, butter & jam. We were also handed hot towels to clean and refresh our hands.

BA CE Breakfast

My wife choose the Omelette which came with mushrooms, a cooked tomato and potato style Rosti.

This was also accompanied by the same fruit salad and a cheesecake style dessert. My wife enjoyed the Omelette, I tasted some and was impressed.

Both our breakfasts were served with either fresh coffee or Twinings tea.

BA Club Europe Omelete breakfast

On our return flights from TFS, we were on the afternoon service so had the opportunity to experience the Club Europe lunch menu.

On this occasion, I opted for the Beef Massaman curry and my wife choose the macaroni cheese.

British Airways Club lunch

I found the Massaman Beef curry actually quite good and tasty. It used a creamy style, mild curry sauce with braising style beef chunks and a Khichdi rice with vegetables.

This dish also came with antipasti including stuffed peppers with feta, olives and Sun dried tomatoes. A dish of a selection of cheese which were delicious including Somerset brie and coastal cheddar, black grapes & crackers then for dessert an Orchard fruit crisp.

BA Europe Business Class lunch

My wife enjoyed the macaroni cheese pasta dish. I also sampled some and was impressed for a pasta style dish on a plane, not dry and chewy.

Her meal also came with the antipasti, cheese selection and Orchard fruit crisp dessert, all accompanied by a bread roll and butter.

All meals were served up on Bone China crockery and accompanied by steel BA branded cutlery with Dining menus provided to all passengers in this Cabin.

Club Europe Drinks & Refreshments

Before departure, drinks were offered to all passengers by the Cabin Crew. This included any soft drink, spirits, still wine or Champagne. All drinks are served in BA branded glassware.

I still like to take every opportunity to have a glass or two of Champagne either in the Lounge, pre-departure or during the flight.

During lunch I decided to try the White Chardonnay which I found pleasantly drinkable.

Tea by Twinings and Union roast coffee was regularly offered by the cabin crew to all the Club Europe passengers.

BA Club Europe drinks menu

BA Club Europe In-Flight Cabin Crew Service

BA cabin crew service in our experience is unpredictable.

On one flight you can experience a great cabin crew, then on another flight can be not so good which we feel is a real shame and does not portray we feel the correct customer service level to all BA passengers.

On our outbound flight the cabin crew were just ok, they completed the basics of their job and nothing else.

On our return flight,we experienced a much more customer focused crew with an on-board cabin crew manager present. The cabin crew manager made conversation with every passenger on our flight whilst serving customers with a smile.

We struck up a conversation with the Cabin crew manager during our flight on a few occasions and he shook my hand and wished me an onward pleasant journey when we departed the plane.

BA Club Europe Benefits vs BA Economy Class

Flying on British Airways Club Europe does certainly come with some Perks.

In comparison to Economy class on the same flight we received a better seat in our opinion. This was due to the layout of our seats with the middle seat reserved by a tray table. Just having the tray table located in the middle seat provided us both extra space to relax, spread out a bit rather than almost rub shoulders with a stranger if were seated in Economy class.

The Club Europe Dining options were in our opinion actually quite good including a 3 Course Meal & Drinks inc Champagne.

In Economy you have to buy your food which includes sandwiches, snacks & drinks and that is if your lucky and your sandwich or snack has not run out.

Club Europe providing Business Lounge access at Gatwick on British Airways Airways is definitely a big bonus.

You gain complimentary access to the prestigious BA Galleries South Lounge, economy class receives no lounge access unless you pay £25.00 each and with paying you do not get access to BA Gatwick South lounge, but a lounge nearby and not as good in our opinion.

Club Europe passengers receive priority boarding, economy class passengers have to wait until Business class passengers have boarded and settled.

Flying BA Club Europe can cost as little as £200 per person, Return.

This Business class flight will also come with extra Tier Points & additional BA Avios Points.

After only 2 Club Europe flights at 80 TP’s each way on the longer european routes, you will receive automatic British airways executive club Bronze membership which provides free seat selection 7 days before departure and an increased avios point earning level.

When you take into consideration all the extras associated with BA Business Class,Club Europe including free BA Lounge access &  Priority Boarding, dedicated check-in, additional luggage allowances at 2 x 32kg each, 3 Course Meals, Free drinks and more room in your seat allocation you can start to see why it is worth paying extra.

In our opinion there are not a lot of difference in the prices between Economy & Business Class.

Our Verdict / Recommendations on Club Europe

British airways Club Europe is “as good as it gets” for BA short-haul European flights unless your lucky enough to be flying on one of the very few, long haul aircraft used on some European routes in which case you would be lucky enough to be sitting instead in a Club World cabin.

The cabin & seats are the same as in Economy except for the middle seat being reserved & used for a tray table. The real difference is the meal & drinks selection served and being seated in the front cabin of the plane, fast track security, priority boarding & the extra baggage allowances and don’t forget access to the Premium Business Class Lounges throughout Europe.

Is it worth paying extra?

This all depends on how much you place a value on those extra benefits you receive in Business Class towards Economy.

We will always go out of our way to fly Club Europe now if flying short-haul but would always research the cheapest way possible. Remember we only paid 68k avios points plus £98.00 in taxes towards a cash fare price of £660, this makes 68k avios valued at £562 in our eyes.

Our other recommendations would be to keep an eye on the regular BA Flight sales for discounted business class flights as some bargains can be found.

Another option would be to always try a “Dummy Run” booking using BA Holidays. The dedicated holiday package site regularly displays packages potentially making the Club Europe flights cheaper than purchasing your basic flight & hotel separately.

We strongly recommend to Definitely reserve your seats as close to front of the cabin as possible as this almost guarantees that you will receive your preferred meal choice.
