Room Award Availability

Maldives Beach Villa with pool

From February 2019, the resorts website started to display cash price’s per night for all accommodations. However, there were still no information listed officially if the resort would even be allowing award availability using Hilton honor points at this stage.

The highest award category points per night was usually 95,000 Hilton Honors before the Waldorf Astoria raised the total of points required to stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool to 120,000 HH points per night.

However, people who have already booked have been able to use the “Free Weekend Night” certificates earned via Credit Card offers against bookings which represent amazing savings in Hilton honor points or incredible cash savings on room bookings.

Also Hilton honors Silver / Gold or Diamond members receive “One free night for every five nights” booked + Hilton Gold / Diamond members also receive free Breakfasts on all stays.

We did not have a Hilton “Free Weekend Night” certificate, but one of us luckily was a Hilton Gold member. Our total Hilton honor points required for our 7 nights stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool came to a total of 720,000 HH points + $84.00 in resort taxes.

120,000 HH Points per night x 7 = 840,000 minus One night Free for being a Hilton Gold Member = 720,000 Hilton honor points.

These 720,000 HH points represent an approximate value against paying cash for a King Beach Villa with Pool in March of $12,215.00 (standard room rate) + 23.2% in taxes = $2833  – final total cost saving $15,048.00.

The King Beach Villa with Pool

Swim in the shallow, Crystal clear warm waters of the Maldives.

With a 65 inch Television, Free Wi-Fi, Refrigerator , Coffee Machine with supplies replenished everyday.

The King Beach Villa with Pool Accommodation is suitable for up to two adults & two Children.

How we collected the Hilton Points…

Firstly, we did have a bit of a head start on our collection of Hilton honor points as a result from our previous stay at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.

Due to us being Hilton Diamond members, our Conrad Maldives stay all on Points resulted in Hilton crediting back to our accounts over 190k HH Points for free. Hilton status members receive a certain percentage of points back on stays when using points for all bookings.

100% ELITE STATUS BONUS

With Diamond elite status, you automatically receive a 100% bonus on all the Hilton Honors Base Points you earn.

Hilton Honors member tier

We both then signed up to the American express Gold Card which enabled us to earn 25,000 Amex Reward points each. This included being referred to the American express preferred rewards card which provided us 22,000 Amex Reward points instead of 20,000

Amex Gold referral

We both then took out free supplementary Amex Gold Cards on both accounts providing us an additional 3,000 MR Points each.

22,000 Amex Gold Card Sign up Bonus + 3,000 Amex MR Bonus for each Supplementary Card per account.

Total Amex Membership Reward Points = 50,000 MR Points.

American express Reward Points transfer over to Hilton honor accounts at a rate of 2:1 so a total of 100,000 Hilton honor points.

Unfortunately, American Express very recently have reduced the Amex Gold Card Sign up Bonus to 10,000 Membership Reward Points but if you “Contact Us” we can get you an additional Bonus of 2,000 MR Points so a total of 12,000 Amex Reward Points + 3,000 points for your first supplementary card = 15,000 MR Points all for Free.

If you would like to earn the equivalent of 30,000 Hilton honor Points for free like we did each, Click here >CONTACT US< and we will send you all the details.

Buying Hilton Points offer

honor points bonus promotion

Recently, Hilton have been promoting an amazing deal open to all Hilton honor members. To be able to take advantage of this great offer, you will need to sign up to the Hilton honor membership scheme by clicking here: https://www.hilton.com/en/hilton-honors/

This offer includes the benefit of buying Hilton Points whilst attracting up to a 100% Bonus on all point purchases.

The Hilton bonus point offer runs until 28th May, 2019

  • Registered members of the Hilton honours loyalty scheme will earn 100% Bonus Points on all purchases of points starting at 5000 points.
  • An additional 100% Bonus Points will be awarded for every purchase of points up to a maximum of 80,000 points per member, per calendar year.
  • Points will be credited to members accounts within 24 hours from purchase.
  • Hilton reserve the right to withdraw the promotion at any time.

Hilton allow all members to purchase up to 80,000 HH Points per calendar year. Using the bonus point offer you will receive an additional 80,000 HH  Points on a purchase of the maximum yearly allowance 80,000 + 80,000 = 160,000 Hilton honor points.

We took advantage of our full years allowance by utilising this offer so we purchased 80,000 HH Points each resulting in a total of 320,000 Hilton honor points.

This cost us $800 x 2 = $1600.00 in total which gave us 320,000 HH Points.

We used our points to redeem against 2 x nights + 80,000 HH Points left over or another 2/3rds of another night at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives = 2 nights + 2/3 of a night.

When you look at the value we achieved by purchasing those points in this latest Promotion, you can see why we jumped on this deal as soon as it turned up in our inbox.

To purchase 2 nights + 2/3rds of a night would cost in cash to pay for the King Beach Villa with Pool – $4661.70, by utilising this Hilton buy Points offer cost us $1600 representing a saving of $3061.70.

If your thinking of booking the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives for as cheap as possible, we would strongly recommend buying your full yearly allowance each.

We have provided the link to the offer here – Hilton Buy Points

At this stage by utilising the Amex Gold Card Sign up Bonus Points offers and the latest Hilton buy points offer, we were sitting at 610,000 Hilton honor points, only 110,000 HH Points left to collect.

We made up the remaining points by using some Virgin Atlantic Miles transferred over to Hilton which transfers over at a rate of 2:3 and two Amex Gold Card 10,000 MR Points anniversary bonus points each.

The Amex anniversary bonus points transferred over to Hilton bagged us 40,000 HH Points.

Our Verdict / Recommendations

By following the methods we used, we were able to collect all the Hilton Honor points required to stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool. You can also save yourself thousands against the cash purchase prices at the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi Maldives.

In total, a 7 Night stay in the King Beach Villa with Pool cost us only $1684.00 against the cash purchase cost – $15,048.00

That represents a total cash saving of $13,364.00

Our recommendations would be to sign up to our Newsletter to ensure you receive to your inbox any new Hilton Bonus Point offers.

Take out the American Express Gold Card to bag the 30,000 Hilton Honor points for free each via our link we can send to you, if you “Contact Us”.

Also, if you will need to acquire Hilton Gold Status to bag the “One Free Night for every Five nights” booked which also will provide you with Free Breakfasts at this resort for all persons staying in your accommodation (Estimated Value $100 each per day).

Conrad Maldives Seaplane Male Lounge 2019 Review

Conrad Maldives Seaplane Male Lounge 2019 Review

All customers staying at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island get complimentary access to the amazing Conrad Lounge before departing the Seaplane Port located at Male Airport.

Arriving at the Conrad Maldives Seaplane Lounge

After a long but direct flight to Male airport from London Gatwick on British Airways in Club World – Review found here > British airway club world Review , we finally arrived feeling a little tired but in good spirits as we were in the Maldives.

After exiting the arrivals hall we were met by a Conrad Host who escorted us to the Transmaldivian reception desk. All Passengers travelling to Rangali island using the Seaplane transfer option need to be checked in first at Reception.

Conrad Maldives lounge
Conrad Male Lounge Transfer Vehicle

After about 5 x minutes we were greeted by our driver and shown the air-conditioned taxi used for transferring passengers to the Male Airport Conrad Lounge. We were driven to the lounge which took approximately 10 x minutes which appeared via roads around the perimeter of Male airport.

As we arrived at the Conrad Lounge building, it looked very impressive externally. The Lounge building is set amongst lush greenery with flower beds surrounding the pathways. The building is two levels high with the 1st floor used mainly for staff but we be live there is a room with computers for guests to use.

As we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the reception staff on the ground floor. A flurry of activity from the Reception staff suddenly started with our luggage being stored away while we stayed in the Lounge. We were quickly shown where the toilets / shower rooms were located, the food and refreshments on display and the complimentary neck & shoulder massage room.

Conrad Maldives Lounge Opening / Closing Times

The Conrad lounge is open everyday to guests staying at Rangali Island from 7am to 5pm.

Guests returning to Male airport from the Conrad Rangali island do not now receive complimentary access to the lounge anymore, only complimentary access on arrival and departing to the resort.

Guests arriving fro 5pm to 11pm have to pay $85 per adult, $42.50 per child under 12 with these prices attracting an additional 10% service charge as standard on most Rangali Island charges.

The lounge also allows returning guests from Rangali Island to gain access to the lounge for a charge of $85.00 per adult, $42.50 per child from 7am to 5pm everyday. This access needs to be prebooked with Conrad Maldives reception and added to your final bill before checking out.

The Food & Refreshments Area

As we entered the main lounge area, to the right was a walkway which led round to an area containing the food and refreshments self-serve zone. There were a few buffet style food containers containing some hot eggs and bacon, cooked tomatoes. The table also contained sandwiches, toast, pancakes and sauces.

Behind this area were a few refrigerators containing a wide selection of soft drinks, water etc. You can also serve yourself to Coffee and Tea at the table. We did see one staff member refilling various containers with fresh food during our stay.

With a few light bites and a cup of coffee, we made our way into the main lounge area to relax.

Conrad lounge male
Conrad Male Lounge main area

The main Conrad Lounge area contained many large, leather-bound chairs with similar glass covered coffee tables located In front. We got the instant impression of luxury with the leather chairs and coffee tables throughout. The Lounge is light and airy with a feeling of Privacy with large proportions, we were among 10 x other travellers in the Lounge but we never felt at any point were on top of anyone else.

The decor is simple but sophisticated with neutral tones throughout and a few bold colours thrown in with cushions, pictures and greenery. Large flat screen televisions are situated throughout the lounge displaying promotional Conrad videos and the occasional interlude of Mauritian weather forecasts.

Complementary Neck & Shoulder Massage

To the right of the lounge area we observed a room separated off from the main lounge. We observed a masseur providing a customer a complimentary neck & shoulder massage on a large leather massage chair. It appears the massage lasted approximately 15 x minutes and each guest who left looked very happy. I decided to take up the offer myself, to receive a free neck & shoulder massage after a long flight was very much-needed and much appreciated. The experience left me feeling relaxed and reinvigorated, the masseur provided me a voucher to money off a full massage at the Rangali resort.

The entire lounge is served by a free wi-fi service, we sat down with a coffee and logged on to catch up.

Conrad MLE lounge seaplane views
Conrad Maldives male lounge seaplane view

At the end of the main lounge area we discovered a door which lead out onto a balcony walkway. As soon as we stepped out we were immediately hit by the hot, maldives midday sun. Along the balcony area were the most comfortable, leather Loungers to sit, relax and take in the views.

In the near distance we could view a large expanse of water with wooden jetty and walkways to the Transmaldivian Seaplanes awaiting departure. It was exciting to sit and watch various Seaplanes arrive and depart from the port in our view. At the time of our Conrad Maldives Lounge experience there appeared to be various construction works happening in and around the airport. We believe that Male airport is currently under an expansion programme.

Showers / Toilets

Conrad Maldives lounge showers

The bathroom areas were very impressive with floor to ceiling tiles, wooden furniture with wash hand basins with luxurious toiletries. Also within this area was a rainfall shower which I would imagine feels fantastic to freshen up after a long flight. We used this area to get change into our T-Shirts, shorts and flip-flops.

After about 45 x minutes of being in the Lounge, we were advised our Seaplane was now ready for us. A Conrad Member of staff handed us both a tote bag full of water, information on our stay and earplugs for use on the Seaplane. Our luggage was collected and transported to the transfer bus to the Seaplane Port.

The Seaplane Port is literally 3 x minutes on the mini bus, we could see the Port from the balcony area in the lounge and we thought this was a little over the top to make a transfer which is just around the corner. It took longer for everyone to board the bus, than it took in journey time.

Verdict / Tips

The Conrad Maldives Male airport Lounge introduced us to the luxury that Conrad provide all its customers visiting Rangali Island. From the moment we exited the arrivals hall, we were looked after extremely well by the Conrad staff. The air-conditioned Conrad branded Taxi was an impressive start to the journey to how we were greeted by the Conrad staff at the lounge, we really could not fault the service in any way.

The Lounge itself is impressive with a feeling of space, luxury furniture and facilities. To receive a complimentary neck & shoulder massage was a great bonus after a long trip. We could not fault the lounge and service in any way and we highly recommend the Conrad Lounge to anyone.

We believe that Conrad now charge customers of Rangali Island to access the lounge on your Return to Male airport. The charge is $80 and the lounge does close at 10pm every night so if your on a late departure, you would need to exit the lounge and be transferred back to the main Male airport departure terminal.

Conrad Maldives Seaplane Male Transfer 2019 Review

Conrad Maldives Male Seaplane 2019 Review

All Customers staying at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island use a Seaplane as the transfer to and from the resort. The Conrad Maldives Seaplane Transfer takes approximately 40 mins from Male seaplane departure port to Rangali island in total.

Before departing the Seaplane Port, all guests staying on Rangali island receive Complimentary Conrad Lounge access at Male Airport. The Lounge is very welcomed after a long flight from London for us and introduced us to the start of our Conrad Maldives experience in Luxury – Read our Full Review of the Conrad Male airport Lounge by clicking here > CONRAD MALDIVES MALE AIRPORT LOUNGE

Conrad Male Airport Lounge

We only waited approx 45 x minutes in the Luxurious Conrad Lounge before a staff member made us aware that our transfer was ready to the Seaplane Port / Dock. We quickly got all our personal belongings together and was handed a complimentary Tote bag each containing two bottles of water, earplugs and some information documents. The water came in very handy on the hot seaplane journey.

Mini Bus transfer from Lounge to Seaplane

What appeared only a few minutes on a transfer mini bus we arrived at the Seaplane Port. To be honest, it would of probably been quicker to walk from the lounge to the departure port but the Conrad look after all guests very well so prefer to transport all guests at every opportunity.

When you exit the transfer bus directly outside the Seaplane Port, you enter through closed doors into an air-conditioned waiting area where you wait In-line for your Seaplane departure allocation. There were seats in the waiting area but were all taken when we arrived so we waited in a queue for approximately 5 minutes.

After about five minutes, a Staff member of the Port waves you on in the direction of your Seaplane Dock zone and off you go…

Conrad Maldives Seaplane port air conditioned building.
View of the waiting area – Seaplane Port

Outside the seaplane waiting zone was very hot and sunny and sunglasses definitely required. We walked down a wooden Jetty in a long queue of passengers passing lots of Parked up Maldivian air Seaplanes.

All Seaplanes have individual parking zones in the dock. The air is filled with the sounds of Propellors and the tinge in the air of diesel fumes. Whilst walking along the wooden jetty walkway we viewed a Seaplane coming into land on the water in the distance which is an exciting moment as we felt our dream Maldives experience was really about to start now.

Your luggage is transported for you to the Seaplane so once again all the little details are taken care of by Conrad for all guests.

Transmaldivian seaplane port jetty to awaiting seaplane.
Conrad Guests making their way to the Seaplane

As you arrive at your allocated Transmaldevian Seaplane, you wait In line while passengers make their way up a small set of steps into the Cabin. One of the Transmaldevian aircrew help you up the small set of steps into the planes rear cabin.

This rear door is the only entrance and exit on the plane. You have to duck your head down when your at the top of the steps in order to not bump your head.

All seats are on Transmaldevian Seaplanes are unallocated, so first come, first serve. No Business Class or V.I.P treatment here…

The Transmaldivian Seaplanes are small and probably can only transport about 18 – 20 passengers at a time. The Cabin felt humid, slightly cramped and the seats a little bit uncomfortable with two seats per side of the centre aisle. These minor points are quickly forgotten as this is part of the Maldives experience, to travel in a Seaplane to an amazing resort.

View of Transmaldivian seaplane pilots perparing for take off.

We were one of the last passengers to board the Seaplane, by the time we boarded there were only a few seats left towards the front of the Seaplane.

We strongly recommend if you experience a Transmaldivian Seaplane to try to board the seaplane first as you can choose which seats you prefer, we would strongly recommend the rear seats of the cabin.

The Cabin is not air-conditioned, the only form of cooling within the interior are two small fans located near the ceiling at the front of the cabin pointing towards the rear of the cabin. If you sit at the front you get very little cooling as the fans are set up high and the air flow makes its way above you to the back.

If you manage to be seated towards the rear of the cabin, you receive more of the cooling airflow at the back, we also found it quieter towards the rear of the cabin.

Your luggage is stored at the rear of the cabin in full view of all passengers. Your luggage is secured in using securing ropes and a Transmaldevian crew member sits at the rear of the cabin next to your luggage for the entire journey.

The Pilots ran through a Series of Pre-Flight checks while the engines are running. This is noisy and you do start to smell the engines revving up. Lots of the passengers at this point put in their supplied earplugs.

As we were seated at the front of the cabin, we could view for the entire journey how the pilot’s operate the controls of the seaplane as there are no door to the Cockpit. The pilot’s uniform comprised off shorts and short sleeved pilot shirts and customary Sunglasses.

After about 10 x minutes off pre-flight checks and safety briefing by the Co-pilot, we started to slowly move away from the jetty zone and out into the main waters of the Port. At this point the engines died down whilst we awaited for another Seaplane to take off in view which was exciting to see through the small Windows of the cabin.

Whilst the other Seaplane was taking off, suddenly our engines burst into action, running faster then we started to make our way to the water runway area slowly at first. Then the engines revs dropped down again and it felt like we were just coasting along awaiting approval to take off. Then suddenly again, the engines burst into action, propellors rotating at full speed and we started to gain speed and a few minutes later we were facing the direction of take off.

Without stopping this time we moved across the water slowly at first picking up speed and then faster, with lots of cross checking going on by the co-pilot we gained speed and after a minute or two later the Seaplane started to lift off the water. At last we were finally taking off with everyone looking out of the windows pointing towards the port.

The Conrad Seaplane transfer takes approximately 40 x minutes to reach Rangali Island. I believe that some seaplane transfers to Rangali can stop off at resorts before your final destination. We were happy to be flying direct and no Stop off’s this time for us.

For about 10 x mins into the journey we appeared to fly at fairly low altitude, this allowed us to view small islands, fishing boats and even sharks In detail. Then the Seaplane ascended to a higher altitude for the next 20 x mins or so.

View of shallow sea on sepalne
Shallow Sea Views / Coral Reefs from the window

We then descended again for the last 10 x mins of our flight. We could see more, small uninhabited islands, coral reefs and lagoons and shoals of fish. Most passengers after about 20 minutes had accustomed themselves to the seaplane journey and started to chat and take lots of pictures.

At the next point in the journey after about 35 minutes, our Seaplane banked right. We were now in view of our destination – Rangali Island. The plane appeared to bank round to the right again giving us a breath-taking view of the entire island/s, it really is a truly beautiful location what we viewed before us.

Rangali island walkway spanning between both Islands.
View of the walkway spanning the two islands

The seaplane started to descend and we were getting closer and closer to landing on the water. You could almost feel The excitement in the cabin at this point.

The landing of the Seaplane was very smooth with no bumps on the water at all. Our Seaplane then turned towards the Rangali walkway spanning the two islands and further round to come into dock.

What we observed from our window seats were the Conrad Hosts all lined up on the dock waiting to greet us. This was a first for us, to be greeted by waving Conrad hosts was an introduction to the impeccable service we received during our stay.

Rangali island Conrad Hosts greeting you.
Conrad Hosts waiting for you at the Rangali seaplane Dock.

You are assisted off the Seaplane by the Transmaldivian staff members and your Personal host is awaiting you on the Jetty. After a quick introduction by your host, we were escorted to a to an air-conditioned area on the walkway and handed a cooling iced drink.

Your luggage is taken off the Seaplane for you and transported by buggy to the main islands reception area.

Our personal host greeted us by our name with a friendly smile and inquired how our Seaplane journey experience was for us. They took our hand luggage and carried this to the main reception area for us walking along the walkway which spans between the two island’s.

The Conrad reception area is located at the end of the wooden walkway on the main island. When you arrive at reception your host finds you a set of chairs to sit on whilst explaining details of the facilities on the two island’s and arranges for staff members to take your luggage to your allocated room.

After about 5 minutes, we were informed by our host that our room was ready at which point your escorted by buggy right to the front door of your allocated villa.

Verdict / Opinion:

The Conrad Maldives Seaplane journey is truly an experience from the minute you step aboard, to the minute you exit. Some of the views from the window of the Seaplane are simply breathtaking and made the journey for us unforgettable.

Yes, the Seaplane could have better facilities like decent air conditioning. Yes, the seats could have been more comfortable but this is a Seaplane and we would imagine most Seaplanes are the same and basic in design.

We believe there are plans to install air conditioning to some Transmaldivian seaplanes now which would be a great benefit to all passengers.

The cost per person, return is currently $590 + taxes, expensive but this is the Maldives!

To visit the Maldives, most resorts are only accessible by Seaplane but by flying this way, this just adds to the entire excitement & experience of the Maldives.

If you ever get the chance to experience a Seaplane, you won’t regret it…

Have you ever experienced the Transmaldivian Seaplane journey, we would live to hear your thoughts & comments below.

As you enter through your Security card accessed front door, you enter a light & airy hallway with floor to ceiling glass which looks out into your private rear garden. Located at the end of the hallway is an Umbrella stand & two Umbrellas. We found this amusing as were in the Sunny Maldives but to our surprise on a few occasions we actually needed those Umbrellas due to a few, short, early evening showers. Located off the Hallway this lead through to the largest Living area we have ever seen in a hotel / resort room. Off the hallway was located an amazing bathroom area, a large wardrobe area and a separate toilet.

The bathroom area consisted of two separate, freestanding marble wash hand basins, mirrors, lighting and complimentary Luxury toiletries. Quality egyptian cotton hand towels with bath towels stored underneath. Also supplied are toothbrush holders, hand tissues etc.

External Rain Fall Shower:

Off the bathroom, there were a set of sliding doors leading to a paved, patio area with the most amazing Rainfall shower. This area is part of a very private garden area with high walls around the perimeter. To shower in the open gardens is a liberating experience with only birds in the trees as your audience. The shower area is stocked with luxury, organic essential oils shower gels & shampoo / conditioner.

At the rear of the Private Gardens we viewed a large, under Canopy Spa Bath officially known as the Bathing Pavilion. The bathing pavilion is surrounded by lush greenery, trees, bushes and exotic flowers. We later found out that you can pay for Room service to fill the bath for you including essential oils…

The entire Beach Villa is air-conditioned throughout making it comfortable and a welcome break to cool down from the hot Maldives sun. Off the hallway we discovered a large wardrobe area separated with sliding wooden doors containing a safe. This area held lots of additional quality bed linen, towels, bathrobes, slippers and a Complimentary Conrad wicker beach bag. The wardrobe area is extremely large and easily accommodates three adults clothes and luggage. To find this wardrobe area with its own air conditioning was a great benefit, it kept our clothes cool and a relaxing area to get changed in straight from the shower.

Main Living area:

As we entered the Villa’s main living area, we were surprised to see two sofas. One a chaise lounge and the other a Sofa bed (Sleeps two). This area can be separated by a movable curtain for Privacy, excellent for children or friends / family staying with you. The BV can accommodate up to Three adults or Two adults & Two children.

As Diamond Hilton Honor members we were delighted to find a personal management greeting letter welcoming us to our room including a bottle of Champagne on ice, various exotic fruits and chocolates.

The main living area contained the largest, Super king sized bed with excellent quality feather pillows and Egyptian cotton bedding that we have ever encountered. The bed linen gave the feeling of real luxury and the bed was super comfortable. We always had a great nights sleep whilst on our stay.

Coffee / Refrigerator area:

A small alcove area off the main living area contained a small, under counter refrigerator filled with min bar sized alcoholic and a mixture of canned soft drinks. Two large, Conrad branded water bottles, carton of milk and a selection of chocolate bars. These items except the water / milk are all chargeable to your room. A Nespresso coffee maker with a large selection of complimentary coffee pods which are replenished everyday by house keeping. A 32 inch LCD TV kept us entertained during our stay with free cable TV channels. You can even order Room Service from the TV set and receive personal messages instantly. We used the free internet wi-Fi service complimentary in all rooms in the resort to watch online movies of our choice.

Additional Facilities:

As standard every room at Rangali Island also provides a DVD / CD player, hairdryer, Laundry service which is chargeable to your room. House keeping was of an excellent standard and our Villa was cleaned twice a day. Items were replenished on each visit such as our water bottles, coffee capsules, milk and fresh fruits.

As you exit the main living areas sliding patio doors we found ourselves stepping out onto a canopy covered patio area consisting of two, cushioned wooden sun loungers & side tables. The sliding patio doors are also opened from the garden side by swiping your room key card on the reader which was very convenient when wanting to enter your Villa from the Beach. Your private gardens are full of coconut trees, bushes and flowers in bloom. On many occasions we saw fruit bats fly between the trees and other exotic birds. We followed the pathway through the gardens to find at the end the most jaw dropping, fluffy white sandy beach and breath-taking blue lagoon awaiting us. We had finally found Paradise on earth!

Beach & Sun Loungers & Warm water blue lagoon

Private beach / Lagoon:

Our Beach Villa was located in the low 200’s. After researching previous reviews, we both agreed for us that this location on the entire Island was perfect. The low 200’s accommodation side of the island faces into a beautiful, shallow blue lagoon. It’s extremely private on this side of the island and you face towards the ocean. As you walk into the lagoon waters you feel just how warm the water really is in the Maldives. In the far distance we could see the Muraka, the first in the world, under water suite under construction.

Every Beach Villa has conveniently located at the end of your private gardens on the beach, two wooden Sun Loungers and cushions under either a thatched canopy or moveable canopy and small, side table for drinks. A waiter visits twice a day on the beach taking drink orders.

The lagoon is fairly shallow and we could easily walk for a many minutes until the water reached our shoulder height. The water is so warm and clear in the lagoon that we felt we just didn’t want to leave. We noticed on many occasions shoals of small fish swim close to the shore. As we ventured further out we noticed the most beautiful, large fish swimming past our legs. On some occasions we noticed giant Manta Rays swim past in the lagoon.

To the left along our beach, small boat excursions leave the shore to take people to local dive sites for Scuba diving. The Mandhoo Restaurant was located about five minutes walk but not in sight due to its location around the natural curve of the island. Clean beach towels were left on our Sun Loungers every morning and extra towels left in storage units along the beach. Our host visited us everyday during our stay to ensure everything was to our satisfaction and to keep us informed of special events on the island. I took advantage of the free snorkelling equipment hire during our stay and spent many hours exploring the lagoon.

Conrad Maldives Breakfast / Afternoon Tea

When staying on Rangali Island you have two restaurants to choose from everyday for your Breakfast. We used everyday during our stay the Atoll Market due to its close location to our Villa, literally 3 x mins walk. The Atoll Market serves breakfast daily from 6.00am with a wide selection of hot and cold foods for breakfast Inc sausages, bacon, various versions of cooked eggs. A chef will cook you eggs to order whatever your preference is and cook pancakes / waffles to order while you wait.

Another chef cooks to order omelette with any fillings you request, a juice bar, cold meats, jams, toast, breads, fresh fruits, yogurt etc. Waiter service shows you to your chosen table and takes your order for Tea or Coffee.

As Hilton Diamond members all our Breakfasts were completely free including free afternoon tea at the Mandhoo restaurant starting at 3pm everyday. Afternoon Tea included finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, canape’s and tea, coffees and soft drinks.

WATER VILLA REVIEW

Over Water Villa on Rangali Island Conrad Maldives Review

The Water Villa also known as the OWV – Over Water Villa accommodation is 86 sq m or 925 sq ft of pure luxury. We managed to upgrade from our Beach Villa to a Water Villa for the last night of our stay.

We paid $185 to upgrade for the one night, it was a special treat and we felt we couldn’t stay in the Maldives without trying out a Water Villa at least once. The average cost per night for this type of accommodation is around £800-£900 a night. Considering we didn’t pay out any cash for our Beach Villa, we felt paying $185 justifiable.

Unfortunately, Rangali Island is exempt from the Hilton Diamond members conditions that you will receive an upgraded room where available. I believe exceptions to this rule have been made in the past, our Tip would be to try staying here during the quieter months of the year for a better chance of bagging that elusive free upgrade.

Transportation:

After securing our night in the Water Villa via our Personal host, we were advised to get all our personal belongings together and Pack all our luggage. Our host came and found us on the Beach and advised us that someone will be calling at our BV at midday. Right on time, the doorbell rang and a very friendly member staff asked for our luggage and bags. He took everything for us to an electric buggy parked up on the path. We were asked if we’re ready to move or would be prefer later, with anticipation and excitement we were ready and promptly jump in the buggy for the short ride to our Water Villa.

It was fun to ride in the buggy and after about five minutes and lots of twists and turns down different pathways and across the bridge spanning between the two islands, we found ourselves outside our new accommodation on the quiet island.

Walkway to Over Water Villa

We arrived and parked up at the end of the wooden walkway to the entrance of our new accommodation. Our luggage was taken into the Villa for us and an explanation given of all the new Facilities.

The Water Villa does certainly have the “Wow” factor. The main living areas are all covered in wooden panelling, you certainly get a feeling of luxury staying here. Our Villa had a large curved sofa, a glass desk facing out of a window to an amazing view of the ocean.

A section in the floor was made of glass, we stood there for at least five minutes staring at all the fish swimming under our feet.

Living area in the OWV

A nice surprise was to find awaiting us again a bottle of champagne on ice, chocolates and fruit. When we evaluated the differences between our Beach Villa to the Water Villa, we found that basic facilities were roughly the same though.

Bathroom:

The bathroom consisted of two, separate marble round bowls set onto wooden units. We got the same standard of toiletries as before. The biggest benefit was definitely the window facing towards the lagoon and the ocean facing bath.

Over Water Villa Sun Deck:

Owv sun deck
OWV Sun Deck

Now this is where we noticed the big difference between the two Villa’s we had the pleasure of staying in. When you open the sliding doors from your main living area, we were taken back by the breath-taking view out into the blue lagoon.

The sundeck on the OWV consisted of a small, plunge pool at the end of the deck. We found this luxury to cool off in the hot, Maldives sun. Steps lead down into the Lagoon from the sun deck. This was a wow factor for us, we had never imagined staying at a hotel that you can walk from your room into the ocean. We swam with fish, watched Manta Rays glide by and just relaxed in the warm waters of the lagoon.

The Sun deck contains two wooden loungers with cushions, a Sun umbrella canopy, table and chairs and the plunge pool. At night, the sun deck is lit by recessed lighting, we found it so relaxing to sit at our table with a Coffee watching the sun go down. Privacy was good at the Water Villa, our Sun deck was cordoned off to each side by a wooden walls on stilts out of the lagoon.

Our Verdict: Beach Villa vs Water Villa

Firstly, we had to pinch ourselves regularly to remind ourselves that we were lucky enough to be staying in the Maldives, let alone being able to stay in two different accommodations in a 5 Star Resort here.

The main differences between the two villas has to be the Sun deck in the Water Villa and that you are actually staying in accommodation on stilts just above and in the ocean. The Sun deck really has that extra special feel and the ocean views are just stunning.

However, if you look at the Square footage of both Villas as a comparison then the Beach Villa wins hands down. You get nearly 80% more space in the BV for your money. Plus it’s cheaper, if you pay cash then your looking at an approx difference of 40% cheaper for the BV.

We found the Facilities in both Villas similar except for the Sun deck in the OWV. Even though we loved walking down steps into the lagoon, we also loved being on an amazing beach in one minute at the end of our private garden in the BV. You do sacrifice the beach in the Water Villa.

We think most people would always choose the Water Villa over the Beach Villa. However, if you were looking for best value for your money then we would definitely say the Beach Villa was the winner due to the price per night. If you ever get the chance to stay at the Conrad Maldives in a Beach Villa, we would definitely recommend enquiring about an upgrade to a Water Villa like we did just to experience the two accommodations.

Skint Traveller Cost Breakdown:

We stayed in the Beach Villa for 7 x Nights plus upgrading to a Water Villa for 1 x night.

7 x Nights in a Conrad Rangali Island BV can be purchased for approx £3500. The standard Hilton rate for this Villa is $687 per night but you can usually find a cheaper deal using one of the many Online Travel Agents advertising on the web.

7 x Nights in a Water Villa costs approx £700 a night so nearly an additional £1400 more than a BV so nearer £5000 for a week’s stay.

We paid for 7 x nights in the Beach Villa all on Hilton Honour points for our stay. The amount of points we used came to 570,000. That is 95,000 HH points per night but if your a Hilton Honors Silver status member or above, you get 1 x night free per every 5 x Nights. So normally 665,000 points.

Every customer Staying on Rangali Island has to pay for the Seaplane Transfer to and from Male international airport. This costs an eye watering £445 each so £890 Return for us two.

Our final bill came to £1430 including the Upgrade to the Water Villa, thats including all our food and the Seaplane Transfers. We were chuffed to only pay less than 1.5k for that package as a cash purchase cost would of been nearer £6500.

Our bill was only possible by us having Hilton Diamond status allowing us Free Breakfasts everyday and free afternoon tea. We did enquire about the cost of breakfast by cash and we were quoted £140 a day.

We strongly recommend that you acquire Hilton Gold or above status when Staying at Rangali Island to save a lot of money. Hilton Gold can be acquired for Free through taking out the Amex Platinum card. If you are interested in aquring Hilton Gold for Free, contact us and we will send you all the details.
